Let someone off the hook é um idiom que significa livrar alguém de punição, deixar passar algum erro de alguém. Exemplos:

“It’s a waste of time talking to her about Peter. She always let him off the hook. (É perca de tempo falar com ela sobre o Peter. Ela sempre deixa passar os erros dele.)

“I’ll let you off the hook this time, but don’t do it anymore.” (Eu vou deixar passar dessa vez, mas não faça isso de novo.)
